# The free tier

> Rapid Review's free tier for public open-source repositories, its monthly limit and what a free-tier review includes; read this when you ask about free reviews for open source, the limit of 50 reviews a month, or a free tier message on a check.

## What is the free tier?

Rapid Review has a free tier for open-source repositories, at fair-use rates. It reviews public repositories only.

## Can a private repository be in the free tier?

No. The free tier reviews public repositories only. A pull request of a private repository in the free tier isn't reviewed, and its check says "The free tier reviews public repositories only."

## How many reviews does the free tier include?

Each repository can start 50 reviews in the free tier per calendar month (UTC), whatever their outcome, so a review that failed counts too.

Each review's check says which one it was, for example "Free tier: review 12 of 50 this month (UTC)." Once a repository has had its 50, its pull requests aren't reviewed, and the check says so. Reviews resume the next month.

## How does a repository get into the free tier?

Rapid Review puts a repository in the free tier. It can't be chosen in `.rapid-review.yml`. A repository in the free tier is reviewed in it whatever its `.rapid-review.yml` says, and the check's warnings name the file's mode.

## What does a free-tier review include?

* A review of the changed lines with the code around them. The reviewer can also look up other code in the repository.
* The check of what the pull request says it does against the change.
* The summary comment.

A free-tier repository doesn't record learnings, and its reviews don't use them.

## What else applies to free-tier repositories?

Everything else works as for any repository. For example, pull requests from forks aren't reviewed, and the installation's daily review budget applies.
